MAGGIE’S DREAM

Last night I had a dream. It was one of those dreams that are so real and so vivid that I will remember it the rest of my life. I dreamt that I was sitting at a table with a few other people. The others started talking about the meeting they had the day before. One to which I should have been invited, but wasn’t. It was a national committee that had a lot of authority, and they were talking about the changes that had just been voted into law. Whatever the new law was, I looked at them in shock and said, “Do you mean I can’t even sing a lullaby to my baby?” The chairman couldn’t look me in the eye, but said, “Yes, that is correct.” There was a stick of butter on the table. I took a knife and cut a small portion off the end. I said, “Is there this much tolerance?” He took the knife from me and laid it down saying, “No tolerance.” I knew the state would have complete control over my children.

As I woke up, head spinning, I thought, “What could I do to stop this?” I remembered that I have never taken the time to write to my congressman, even if I believe strongly about the issue. I’m always too busy.
Last Memorial Day as we attended a ceremony at the cemetery in honor of the fallen soldiers, there was a very small crowd and only a few under 25 years of age.

Right now the government has passed laws telling a segment of our society where they can live. They can’t even leave their county to visit their mother that lives in another county some miles away. Have you ever said, “America is the best country around, but we are losing a lot of freedoms. It isn’t what it used to be?” What are you going to do about it? I don’t know about you, but I’m going to fast and pray for our country.

The following is an excerpt from a letter Dick received from an inmate:
I am heartened by the progress you are making in bringing to light the needs of ex-offenders. As you know, pioneers are always rebuffed and criticized. We humans don’t accept new paradigms very well. What is a struggle now will be “normal” in 10 years. However, if there aren’t people willing to step out into the unknown, we all will be worse off. So, keep treading into unknown, unfamiliar, unpopular territory, my friend. Many people in the future are counting on you.

PEACE

Peace on earth, good will toward men. That was the angel’s message to the shepherds announcing Christ’s birth. How about you, are you experiencing the peace of God in your life, in your household? Are we seeing good will to men in today’s society? This is God’s plan for mankind, but man has his own agenda, and consequently many have lost out on experiencing His peace.

Man’s plan: Treat me right, and don’t make waves. Do things my way. Then we will have peace. God says;

“Follow peace with all men and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.” (Hebrews 12:14,15)

He says; “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

Today we see man’s inhumanity to men. Our country is fighting a war against those who would impose their will through fear and intimidation upon those who cannot defend themselves. God’s chosen people, the nation Israel must constantly protect themselves against the neighboring nations. There are wars and rumors of war throughout the world.

Where have we gone wrong? Many have been deceived into thinking they can impose their will upon man instead of obeying God’s command to love their neighbor. Galatians 6:10 says; As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. Our ministry is attempting to obey God, as we extend His hand of grace to ex-offenders. We have our distracters. Those who would say; “they made their bed, let them lie in it.” We pray that God would open their eyes to see the heart of God to these, the least of His children.
