As I was writing for this newsletter, I was interrupted by two calls regarding individuals looking for housing. In the past several years we have developed a resource list of other organizations providing similar services and, more often than not, we are best able to help someone by referring them to an organization or location that places them closer to family or employment opportunities. The number of those we serve go far beyond these 24 acres outside of Pahokee.
We never know what issues may come up on a day to day basis in serving our residents. Recently, we have had a population explosion of Muskovy ducks and feral cats in our community which has generated a number of complaints. We’re working with Animal Control and they have begun spaying and neutering the cats. We’re still addressing the issue of the ducks. My job is never dull. When I wake up in the morning and say, “Here I am, Lord”, I never know what I’m going to get.
